2001 Dredging Project

The Boat Club dredges its footprint once every ten years.  The State Department of
Environmental Protection sets the dates for dredging based on environmental concerns and not
on the boating season.  Our window granted by state permit is October 1st to January 31st.  The
entire project has to be completed before severe winter weather makes it possible to operate.
Our dredging plans have been in the works for more than a year and a half.  It has taken that
long to get permits, establish budgets, secure vendors, etc.  Our plan is to remove approximately
16-thousand cubic yards from the Club's footprint, which includes the section from the Darien Town
ramp out around the docks, in between the "lines", and out to the "gut".  Total cost for the project is
budgeted for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.  That includes replacing some piles and
docks that have to be displaced because of the dredging and movement of the contractor's
equipment.  Here are some pictures of the work in progress.
