Dear members,

Happy New Year to all.  You are invited to attend the first general meeting of 2007 on Monday, February 5th at 8:00 p.m. in the main hall of the Piedmont Club.  Please try to attend (donuts and cider will be served.)

All invoices for 2007 membership dues and fees have been mailed out.  If you have not received your invoice, please contact Jim Baker, our club Manger, at 656-1446, or e-mail him at dbcmgrjim@aol.com.  All dues and fees are payable by February 1st in accordance with the Boat Club’s By-Laws.  Additionally, if you have moved within the past few months, please inform Jim Baker so that he can update the Club’s records.  Anyone who has not paid by February 15th will be removed from the membership list.

All members will be required to provide the Mooring Chairman with a copy of their Connecticut Motor Vehicles Registration and proof of Liability Insurance in the amount of $300,000 before placing their boats on the docks.  We will have a guest speaker, Mr. Rocco Casinelli, a representative from State Farm Insurance at our General Meeting to assist you with any insurance needs.

Any member who is planning to purchase or has purchased a new boat for their existing slip must get written permission from the Mooring Committee prior to placing it on the docks.  Forms are available from Jerry Kutz 656-3171 or Jim Baker at the club.  We have taken pictures and recorded the registrations of all boats previously moored at the Darien Boat Club.

We would like to remind all members that if you think, in  the future, you would like to have a boat on the docks, a kayak in the racks or any other service the club provides, you need to fill out a separate application for each service.  Applications are available at http://darienboatclub.org/ or at the club.  We have many members who have not filled out any of these applications.  Please take the time to make sure we have your name recorded on the appropriate waiting list.  For questions regarding Dockside moorings, contact Jerry Kutz at 656-3171; for Kayaks, Dinghys, Racks and Lockers please contact Tom Lochtefeld at 219-4034.

BoatUS provides a vast range of services, information
and savings to recreational boaters including:

  • An effective lobby that fights unfair taxes
  • Fees and government regulations that single out boat
    owners
  • Members-only discounts
  • Member Rewards with BoatUS equipment purchases

If you are renewing your BoatUS Membership, be sure to
write in the Darien Boat Club Co-op Group # GA84802B
in the "Annual Dues" column/row and cross out the
standard rate and replace it with the special $12.50
rate. Club officers encourage you to take advantage of
this valuable new program at a low cost that is

To help reduce the costs of bulk mailings, and to keep the members up-to-date on Club issues, the Board is asking members that have not provided their email address to due so.  The Club presently has the email addresses for nearly 600 members and would like to obtain as many as possible.  All email addresses are kept confidential, and mailings are sent blind carbon copy (BCC) to maintain anonymity.  To be added to the email listing, please send an email to darienboatclub@aol.com and include your name so that your membership can be verified.

Lastly, I would like to again thank all of you who helped make the Santa Claus event a great success for the second year.  We had over 75 attendees and were blessed with great weather!

Sincerely,

Phil Raymond
