Darien Boat Club Newsletter
December 2001

Dear Members:

Our Saturday, November 10 dinner dance was a sell-out and a huge
success, thanks to Jennifer and Rodney Johnson and to Hank Gioiella who
contributed generously in many ways.

The officers elected at the dance are:

Commodore...............................  Bill Nolte
Vice Commodore.......................  Tom Williams
Rear Commodore.....................   Phil Raymond
Secretary...................................  John Keena
Treasurer...................................  Chris Mangan
Financial Secretary....................  Paul Larson

The new board thanks outgoing Commodore Vin Burke Jr. for his fine
stewardship and for managing the red tape rich dredging project which he
brought in on time and under budget.  Thanks also to all of you for
promptly removing your boats from the docks in October.

Club membership continues to rise so the Board is looking critically
at ways to alter our facilities to provide for the enjoyment of more
members.  The first alteration is currently underway.

The screened portion of the clubhouse porch is being enclosed by a
crew of member volunteers.  The resulting windowed room will be used for
serving food and drinks at our picnics as well as for the private use of
members.  It is anticipated that work will be completed by Spring.  Other
improvements are under consideration.

After reviewing the cost of operations for the season, the Board
recognized the need to raise fees 10% to cover the costs of operating and
maintaining our facility this coming season.  Dues remain unchanged.

I wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.

                                                              Sincerely,

                                                              Bill Nolte
