Greetings all!

There is still some weeks left in the boating season and lots of time to enjoy the deck at the Boat Club in the fall.  So, please take advantage of our facilities and get the most out of the beautiful weather we have been experiencing.
I would like to just remind everyone to be generous and keep all those individuals in the path of the hurricanes in your thoughts and prayers.  As the memory of Irene and Sandy, and the damage they caused us in recent years diminishes, we never want to forget how devastating these events can be.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please plan to attend our next General Meeting at The Piedmont Club on Monday September 11th at 8 PM, we have quite a bit of information to convey regarding the upcoming elections and the plans for the end of the season.

Followed closely with our Annual Lobster Bake on Saturday September 16th from 6 – 10 PM under the tent at Pear Tree Point!  This is a great event every year!  It gives everyone a chance to spend some time dancing, visiting and meeting fellow members.  Great food, great music, and a great party!  This event is open to guests, so if you have friends or neighbors who might enjoy the Darien Boat Club, please invite them and be sure to introduce them to an Executive Committee member.

Closing Day this year is scheduled for Sunday November 5th at 5 PM.  Members are reminded that all boats and their frog hooks must be removed prior to that date.  Plans are in place to move the docks soon after and frog hooks make that a difficult process.  All Kayaks must also be removed by that date as well.  Please be aware that if we get very high winds in the coming week or two from the remnants of a hurricane that all Kayaks and Boards need to be removed or well secured.

Our last event of the 2017 Season will be our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday November 8th at 8 PM.  We will have light food, and refreshments available.  The main purpose of the evening will be the election of the 2017 officers.  We will conduct a brief business meeting to wrap up the year and give an update of what to expect for 2018.

STAFF GRATUITIES
With a few weeks left in the boating season, our summer staff has started departing back to school.  If you feel any of the staff have made your time at the Boat Club more pleasant this summer then it would be nice to show your appreciation by giving them a discreet end of season tip.  Note that the Club does not have a formal tip pool so if you miss anyone, the office would be happy to accept an envelope on their behalf.

AUDIT COMMITTEE
Once again audit time is upon us again.  Our bylaws require that an audit be done by membership representatives of the club’s financials.  Our books and our processes are relatively simple and we would again like to find a willing volunteer or two to go through our books and procedures.  This is an important role for the club to ensure transparency and confidence in the officers that run our great club.  If you have any expertise in audit and would like to help out the membership, we would ask your assistance in this matter.

SLATE OF OFFICERS
Per our bylaws, Past Commodore Glen Osberg will be presenting the 2018 slate of officers at our September General Meeting on Monday.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CLUB
For your convenience, a baby changing table has been installed in the bathroom at the club, please use it and enjoy your time with your family at the club.  We are trying to make changes that enhance the usability of the club.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE BOARD
I would like to formally announce the following additions to the board:

Entertainment Chair – Jennifer Montanaro
Jennifer comes to us with a long background in volunteer service throughout the town, and has run many events for different organizations.  She jumped in with both feet and ran our last picnic and is well on her way to making the Lobster Dinner a great success!

Launch Captain – Nick Savage
Nick is a long time member of the Boat Club that many of you know; he has taken over the role to run the launch operations from Brian Lovegrove our Fleet Captain.  Nick will be looking at staffing, equipment, usage and a wealth of operating details regarding the launch.

Please join me in welcoming both Jennifer and Nick to the board!

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday evening.

Kindest Regards,

Jerry Kutz
