Dear Members,

As the summer of 2009 begins to sail away, I would like to remind you that there are still a number of upcoming events for September and October:

General Meeting:   Monday, September 14th , 8:00 pm at the Piedmont Club
Lobster Clam Bake:  Saturday, September 19th from 6:00 to 10:00 pm
Season End Picnic:  Sunday, October 4th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm

There will be a General Meeting Monday, September 14th at the Piedmont Club.  Items on the agenda will include:

  • Nominating Committee will be announcing the slate of officers for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.

  • Progress on current and upcoming projects.

  • Report on operations from the Audit Committee.

In addition to regular business, we will have a guest speaker.  Patrick Lennon a maritime law attorney will be on hand to provide a general introduction to maritime law, an overview/ discussion on the laws of salvage, and tips for dealing with salvors such as SeaTow.

Reservations forms have been sent out for the Lobster Clam Bake.  If you wish to attend, please complete and return the form to our Entertainment Chairman, Tom Hanson.  Forms are available at the Club House or on the DBC web site www.darienboatclub.org.  This is not only a great social event for the Club, but use of the tent at the Lobster Clam Bake is donated to support the annual Darien Road Race in its fight to defeat cancer.  This is always a sold out event and is limited to 220 members and guests, please send in your reservations quickly.

During the May General Meeting, the membership approved the proposed new By-Laws and House & Grounds Rules.  In accordance with our lease agreement the proposed documents were forwarded to the Darien Board of Selectmen and I am happy to announce that they were approved.  The new By-Laws and House & Grounds Rules are available on the DBC web site so that members can become familiar with the changes.

The Board would like to remind the membership that there are many members on various wait lists for facilities at the club (slips, racks, & lockers).  Please consider turning your assignment over to the next member on the wait list if you no longer have any use for it.  Should you have renewed interest afterwards, you will be re-established on the wait list with your original application, you will not have to start the waiting process again from the bottom of the list.

Please check the Boat Club’s web site for changes and updates at www.darienboatclub.org .  If you have changed your email address, please make a point of letting us know by sending an email to DarienBoatClub@aol.com

                    Sincerely,
