Greetings all!

The weather has finally broken and our Club is open for business.  Thanks to the amazing efforts of our Club Manager and staff, you may put your boat on the dock or kayak in its rack.  However, please be advised that we will not have night guard or fuel service until opening day.

Our next General Meeting will be this Wednesday May 3rd at 8:00 PM at the Piedmont Club on Hecker Ave.  Please mark your calendars and come join us.  We have scheduled a very dynamic speaker, who will cover the history of Long Island Sound and some interesting information on fishing the sound.

For those of you that want to mark your calendars, here are the dates of events at the club this summer:

  • Opening Picnic June 4
  • Mid-Season Picnic: July 9
  • Closing Picnic: September 10
  • Lobster Dinner: September 19

We would like to inform everyone of a new rule that the Executive Board voted on this winter.  No one will be allowed in the following area’s (especially children):  From the rock jetty near the ramp going down to the docks; all the way around the North and East side of the clubhouse around to the shower.  This is a safety issue and will be strictly enforced!  Remember, you are responsible for your children and your guests.  Violators will be asked to leave the club and disciplinary actions will be taken by the board.

Any facility involving open water can be a dangerous place for children.  We ask you to please monitor your children closely so that everyone can have a safe, wonderful and happy summer enjoying the beautiful Long Island Sound!

As most of you know, the fuel tanks were recently removed and replaced with a single 10,000 gallon tank under the sand just outside the club gates.  I am pleased to inform you that new equipment has been inspected, tested and certified.  We will be open for gas sales for opening day.  If you need gas sooner, please coordinate with our Club Manager or staff.  As I have said in the past, this will ensure the DBC will be pumping gas for the next 30 years.  I would again like to thank Past Commodore David Dever for his herculean effort in getting this done this winter!

Slip and Kayak Rack Holders: per our bylaws, please remember that your boat/kayak must be in its berth no later than June 15, 2017.  If you are not going to make that date, you need to contact the Fleet Captain or Racks and Lockers Chairman WELL IN ADVANCE.

We are still in search of a couple of board positions, particularly Entertainment Chair, if anyone is interested; please contact Past Commodore Glen Osberg at glenosberg70@gmail.com.

For those of you that don’t know, The DBC members can obtain a discount on BOAT US/TOWBOAT membership, see the details at the link here:

http://www.darienboatclub.org/BoatUS%20DBC%20Membership.htm

In keeping with a long standing tradition, the DBC will be sponsoring a fishing contest and the details are as follows:

  • Open to all DBC Members
  • A $10 entrance fee that will be matched by the Club and contest winners to be awarded at the end of the season.  Fees can be paid to the staff at the Club House.
  • The contest will consist of seven species and all Connecticut recreational fisheries regulations will apply.

Please take the time this summer to introduce yourself to the Staff and Board.  We want to know you personally so we can serve you better.  Look forward to meeting you!

Jerry Kutz
