Dear Members:

As the days get longer and we all start to think about boating again, some news and housekeeping items:

1) With the hard freeze in December and January, the ice snapped one piling at the Club, and moved a few others around. We've already made repairs in conjunction with other work we had done this winter.

2) The "other work" done this winter was the reinforcement of the Clubhouse structure with galvanized steel beams.  This project is now complete and the Clubhouse is tied town to help prevent future storm damage.

3) One item I forgot to mention in the February General Meeting  was that the bi-annual audit was completed for fiscal year end 2017.  Adequate controls were found to be in place and no irregularities were found.  A hearty thank you to fellow member Chris Stack for arranging this to be done.

4) As mentioned in the General Meeting, the results summary from the latest survey has been posted on the website.  Check it out here:  http://www.darienboatclub.org/DBC%202017%20Survey%20Results%202017.pdf

5) Get to know your Officers and Executive Board.  See updated pictures and contact information here: http://www.darienboatclub.org/officers_chairs_pics.htm

6) For those curious to know where they are on the wait list, wait lists can be accessed 24-7 by logging in to Online Mooring here: Darien Boat Club Wait Lists

7) Speaking of wait lists, very few slips turned over this year.  If you think you might want to give up your slip this year or need to furlow your slip for the 2018 season due to health or boat repair issues, please do NOT wait until June. Let us know ASAP by contacting fleet captain Kevin McTigue--email fleetcaptain@darienboatclub.org.  Please note that if you change your mind and want to get back on a slip later, then you will be added to wait list the next February 15th and you will be prioritized by the date of your Bond (oldest bond is at the top of the list).

8) I got my 2018-2019 boat registration renewal notice in mid February, did you?  Send it back to DMV ASAP to get the actual updated registration.  You will need to upload this registration along with proof of insurance and the slipholder agreement before the deadline of May 1.  All members are responsible for taking care of this before the deadline so they aren't subject to fines (half of your slip fees).  We will provide "help" days later in April if you are having a problem with uploading to the website, but you need to arrange the registration renewal and insurance on your own.  If your current insurance is still valid, then upload it, and re-upload later in the year when you get your renewal.  Heed these deadlines carefully and take care of this without delay!

9) Official Opening Day is the first Saturday in May (May 5th), and we will not have night watchman service prior to this.  As in past years, the docks MIGHT be accessible prior to opening day, but this is dependent on the weather and getting preparations done.  An e-mail blast will sent out when we have a definite date on this.  Placing your kayaks in the racks or boats on the dock prior to the announcement or prior approval from the Club Manager is strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated.  In addition, slip documentation must be complete prior to placing any boat on the docks.

10) Please note that the Club will be enforcing rules regarding fuel sales more strongly than in past years and it will only be sold to members.  To help enforce this rule, the name on the credit card used to pay for gas should match the name of the member.  Names will be checked prior to dispensing fuel.  If you anticipate any problems complying with this, please speak to the manager ahead of time.  All members purchasing gasoline should have some proof of identification regardless.

Yours in Boating,

Tom Lochtefeld
