Greetings all!  Hope you’re enjoying the Spring like weather !!

I wanted to write you a short newsletter and inform you of some upcoming events and new things around the club.

Our next General Meeting will be Wednesday March 8th 8:00pm at the Piedmont Club on Hecker Ave.  Please mark your calendars and come join us.  It should be a short but informative meeting as efforts are underway to get the club ready for the 2017 season.

As most of you know, the fuel tanks were recently removed and replaced with a single 10,000 gallon tank under the sand just outside the club gates.  The operation went smoothly and as work is still ongoing, we should be up and running for opening day!  If you don't notice that anything changed, then we did our job well!  As I have said in the past, this will ensure the DBC will be pumping gas for the next 30 years.  I would again like to thank Past Commodore David Dever for his herculean effort in getting this done this winter!

Although, we are a club of upwards of 700 families, we are always heavy with heart when one of our members passes away.  Over the past few months we have had 3 people pass away who played a significant role in the operations of our club and I wanted to highlight these folks:

Phil Raymond, former DBC Commodore, passed away December 22nd.  Phil made his mark on the club long before becoming Commodore by serving as the club handyman.  Phil was responsible for designing and building the expansion of the deck around the club that was destroyed by hurricane Sandy.  A great deal of the infrastructure of the current club was built by Phil and his crew.

Paul Larson, former DBC Financial Secretary, passed away January 24th.  Paul joined in the late 70’s and was an active member of DBC until his move to Norwalk a few years ago.  He served as financial secretary until moving out of town.  He always had a great sense of humor and was always willing to lend a hand.

Peter Fitzpatrick, current DBC Financial Secretary, passed away January 28th.  Peter served on the board over the last 24 months and made a real mark with all the board members.  He was a strong advocate for the finances of the club and always kept a watchful eye on what was going on around the club.  He was always there lending a helping hand.

These men will be missed, and although each of you may not have known them, their legacy lives on in the wonderful club we enjoy today.  Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

For those of you that want to mark your calendars, here are the dates of events at the club this summer:

  • Opening Picnic June 4
  • Mid-Season Picnic: July 9
  • Closing Picnic: September 10
  • Lobster Bake: September 16

These dates are tentative, but we wanted to give you as much advance notice as possible.

Slip Holders, Please remember that your 2017 Boat Registration, Insurance Documents and Slip Holder Agreement are due in our Online Mooring System by May 1.

We are still in search of a couple of board positions, particularly Entertainment Chair, if anyone is interested; please contact Past Commodore Glen Osberg at glenosberg70@gmail.com

The temperatures are rising and it is time to retire the skis for another year and get ready for a wonderful boating season at the club!   We hope to see you at the next meeting and around the club this summer.
