Dear Members,
As the holidays approach, I
wanted to take a moment to update you on the progress at the club
for 2016.
First please let me remind you
that SANTA will be arriving at the Boat Club the coming
Monday December 19th at 6 PM! Rumor has it that
SANTA is taking a break from his busy schedule and that our friends
at Noroton Fire Department will be escorting him from the North Pole
to our Deck. This is a fun event and a great opportunity to get
pictures taken with Santa! Come and enjoy this annual treat.
Please be aware that our rest room facilities are closed
for the season, so please plan ahead.
We would also like everyone to
remember that as the year closes, billing through our new “Online
Moorings” will begin in January. Please make sure that we have
your proper email account in our systems. If you have any questions
or issues, please contact us at
dbcinfo@darienboatclub.org. Remember that the deadline of
payment of dues and fees is January 31, 2017 per our bylaws.
Last year we relaxed our enforcement with the implementation of our
new system, but plan to return to bylaw adherence in 2017.
From the Executive Board we
would like to wish you a wonderful and safe holiday season this
year! It has been an exciting year and we hope you have enjoyed
it. The club just keeps getting better and better with each passing
year. This year we had the following major changes:
1.
Unfortunately, the board has decided to suspend efforts related to
the expansion of the docks. This was a tough decision, but it
became clear that the DEEP was not going to approve our
application. The board felt that this was the right decision for
the club as a whole and will continue efforts to make the waiting
lists move as fast as possible.
2.
As many of you probably noticed, we replaced the deck furniture on
the main deck this year and did some renovation of the grill area,
to improve the dining and recreational usability of the club.
3.
Some of you may have notices the Blue and Black collars around some
of the pilings out on the docks. These collars are called
Pile-Mates and serve a number of purposes for the club. They are
more secure than just a simple chain, they protect the club from
floating off the pilings during extreme tides and storms like
“Sandy”, and finally they protect the pilings in the winter against
the ice. We believe they are a great investment in the future and
you will see them placed on more and more pilings each year.
4.
I am sure the folks who keep their boat on C-Dock have noticed, but
I wanted to call everyone’s attention to the great job that Bill
Lowitz (our Club Manager) did on re-decking C-Dock!
5.
Finally, if you visit the club over the winter, you will probably
see the construction going on to replace the fuel storage tanks.
This is a huge project that will ensure that DBC will be able to
sell gas for the next 30 years. I can’t thank our past commodore
David Dever enough for his monumental efforts on this project!
Some other things worth
noting:
I would like to thank Howard
Halstrom, Justin Byczek, Ashley Bartolota and Paul Johnson for their
services on the board. They were all fantastic folks to work with
and we wish them well.
Joining the board this year is:
Tom Bell as Secretary, Mark Cappelli as Launch Captain, Lawrence
Story as Racks and Lockers Chairman.
We are still seeking an
Entertainment Chair, if anyone is interested in joining the board
and giving back to the club, please contact me at
commodore@darienboatclub.org.
Again, have a safe and
prosperous holiday season,
Jerry Kutz
Commodore
