DARIEN VFW AND DARIEN POLICE DEPARTMENT, MARINE DIVISION

Thanks go out to DBC volunteers; Joe Lopiano, Marty Milewski, David Dever, Jerry & Kyle Kutz, and Bill Lowitz and his staff for hosting a luncheon/afternoon of fishing for the Darien VFW.  On the same afternoon Scott Macniven retired and was recognized for his 9 years as lead officer of the Darien Police Department Police Division.

ON GOING REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE

Current projects in process and planned for completion by season end include: clubhouse painting, slip piling caps, and select dock repair.   As usual we ask for your cooperation during these activities.

FISHING CONTEST

Currently we have 18 folks signed up and notable catches have already been posted, many by our younger members.  There is still over 2 months of fishing to go, so please see any of the dock staff and sign up today.

FACEBOOK

Paul Johnson, our Community Relations Chairman, advises us that 360 members (over half our membership), have already signed up.  A link to the Facebook page can be found on the DBC web site also.

NEW BOARD MEMBER/ VOLUNTEERS

Justin Byczek, has recently accepted the appointment as Secretary of the Executive Board.  As a new DBC family member he will bring a fresh perspective to the Club. That said, we still have other openings to fill and are looking for volunteers.  If you are interested please contact me at 203-921-6204 or glenosberg70@gmail.com.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

We are at the height of the hurricane season and Progressive Insurance in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard and FEMA has recently released some helpful tips concerning your boat, whether docked, anchored or in storage….We will post this information on the DBC bulletin Board, FACEBOOK and can also be accessed via the internet at: http://emailimages2.progressive.com/Images/Uber/Hurricane_Preseason_June2012_Boat.htm

2014 BOAT CAMP

Twenty three DBC volunteers attended the 2014 Boat Camp hosted by the Darien Sail and Power Squadron, Noroton Yacht Club, and Person-to Person recently to provide a day on Long Island Sound for under privileged children.

DOCK EXPANSION

Plans are still in process for Dock A & B expansion but before we spend and more capital or energy, we will conduct a special meeting before Year End for members on the wait list to discuss costs and determine the level of member support and commitment.
