Dear Members:
A reminder to everyone we have a General Meeting 8:00pm on
Wednesday, May 2nd at the Piedmont.
We look forward to official Opening Day which is coming up
on Saturday, May 5th.
With the terrible winter weather extended into spring, we
are a little later than usual in opening the docks. We will
start to accept boats on Tuesday April 24th, but only for
slip holders whose paperwork has been received and
approved. Please check your frog hooks and dock space to
make sure everything is in order before bringing your boat
to the dock.
Note all slip paperwork is due by May 1 with penalty of 1/2
slip fees if the deadline is missed. As of today, April 22,
we are still missing full paperwork for 93 slip holders.
The best way to get your documentation approved is to upload
directly to the Online Mooring Website.
If for some reason you're not able to upload, then the
second preference is to send all three documents soft copy
by e-mail to fleetadmin@darienboatclub.orgor
in worst case you can send by US mail to the Club. We will
hold another help session at the Club before the final due
date to help sort things out. Look out for the e-mail.
We'll start accepting kayaks and sailboats on the racks
starting Tuesday as well. Remember to secure your kayak to
the rack as we can't be held responsible for kayaks floating
off on a high tide our blowing off the rack in a high wind.
In addition, note all kayaks and paddle boards will require
a new sticker this year which will have a place for your
rack number and your name. See Club Manager or the dock
staff to get one before putting your watercraft onto the
rack. Finally, please confirm you are in the correct rack
prior to locking it up.
On a sadder note, I regret to inform you that long time Boat
Club Member Link Jewett passed away recently. See a short
note from his daughter below.
Charles Lincoln Jewett
July 15, 1921 - April 8, 2018 Link Jewett, a 55 year resident of Darien and avid sailor, power boater, navigator and world traveler, died peacefully at home with his daughters, Lisa and Lolly, at his side on April 8. His wife, Truda ("T."), died in October 2017. Along with their beloved Fortier 26, Sam Cat II, the Jewetts had been devoted members of the Darien Boat Club for decades. A celebration of Link's life will be held at 2pm on May 18 at the Noroton Yacht Club. I look forward to warmer weather and seeing you all down at the Club.
Yours in Boating,
Tom Lochtefeld
