Dear Members,

Spring has finally arrived and the Darien Boat Club is ready to open for the 2011 season.  Beginning April 25, the Dockmasters will accept boats on the docks and kayaks on the racks.

There will be a General Meeting on Monday May 2 at 8:00pm in the main hall of the Piedmont Club.  At that meeting we will provide an update on the major new initiatives being undertaken at the Club.  At the Special General Meeting that was convened earlier this month, the membership approved, in a near unanimous vote, the operation of a launch service and changes to the By-Laws relating to the way waitlists are ordered.  We are in the process of acquiring a launch boat and the service will begin on a date still to be determined.

While boats are being accepted effective April 25, our official Opening Day is Saturday May 14.  Please be mindful that your boat must be on the dock by June 15 in order to comply with Club By-Laws and the terms of your Slipholder Agreement.  You otherwise risk fines and forfeiture of your slip.  If you have not already submitted your slip holder agreement, a copy of your registration, and evidence of insurance, please do so.  The deadline for submission of these documents is May 1st.

Our Entertainment Chairman Martin Milewski has set the following dates for this season’s social events:

Season Opening Picnic – Sunday, June 5, 2011

Mid Season Picnic – Sunday, July 10, 2011

Lobster Clam Bake – Saturday, September 17, 2011

Season End Picnic – Sunday, October 2, 2011

I want to thank Rear Commodore Glen Osberg and Fleet Captain Jerry Kutz for the incredible effort that they put forth on the launch service and by-law changes, respectively.  Volunteers like Glen and Jerry are hard to come by and we are very fortunate to have them. I also want to commend Jim and George for their efforts getting the Club ready after this long, harsh winter.

As always, I would like to wish all of our members a safe and enjoyable boating season.  See you at the Club!

Sincerely,

Chris Mangan
