Dear Members,

After a long winter, spring has finally arrived and the Darien Boat Club is ready for another season.  The Dockmasters are accepting boats on the docks, and kayaks on the racks.  The first 8 sections of A-Dock have been replaced, so members with slips in these sections will need to replace their dock side securing hardware.  Over the next few weeks, repairs will be underway to replace some of the underpinnings of the club house, so at times there may be limited access to the inside of the clubhouse.

There will be a General Meeting on Monday, May 4th at 8:00 pm in the main hall of the Piedmont Club.  There will be 2 important topics at this meeting:

·         The vote to adopt the proposed new By-Laws and House and Grounds Rules.

·         The approval of capital funds to make repairs on the club house underpinnings.

The proposed By-Laws and House and Grounds Rules were introduced at the February General Meeting, as well as posted on the website for membership review.

Initial repairs have commenced on the underpinnings of the club house, but membership approval is needed for the completion of the project.

Opening Day will be May 2nd, the first Saturday in May.  Our Entertainment Chairman, Tom Hanson has set the calendar for the upcoming events:

Opening Season Picnic:   Sunday, May 31, 2009                   1-3 pm

Mid Season Picnic:          Sunday, July, 12, 2009                   1-3 pm

Lobster Clam Bake:         Saturday, September 19, 2009       6-10 pm

Season End Picnic:          Sunday, October 4, 2009                1-3 pm

Spanning the days of April 27th through May 3rd, there will be a lot of activity at Pear Tree Point Beach and the Darien Boat Club.  The Noroton Yacht Club will be hosting the United States Optimist Dinghy Association team trials.  The NYC and the USODA will be running some of their race operations from Pear Tree Point Beach, and the Darien Boat Club has agreed to let the NYC launch land at the DBC gas dock to transport racers between the NYC and Pear Tree Point Beach.  There will be racers competing from all across the country.

As always please check the Boat Club’s web site for changes and updates at www.darienboatclub.org .  If you have changed your email address, please make a point of letting us know by sending an email to DarienBoatClub@aol.com

As always, I would like to wish all of our members a safe and enjoyable boating season.

      Sincerely,

      John A. Keena
