NEWSLETTER APRIL 2008 Dear Members, Spring has finally arrived and the preparations for the 2008 season are complete. The Dockmasters have been hard at work and the Club is ready for another boating season. In addition to the annual preparations that take place, the sidewalk has been widened, the clubhouse has been re-stained, and the north end of A-Dock has been replaced. Overall a very busy Spring for the Club’s staff, contractors, and volunteers. There will be a general meeting on Monday, May 5th at 8:00 pm in the main hall of the Piedmont Club. We will have guest speakers on hand for the meeting, including Eric Johnson of Westport Outfitters who will discuss fishing in our area as well as new equipment. We will also have Richard Dix, a representative from Frog Hooks. He will introduce some new equipment for your docking needs. As tradition dictates, Opening Day will be May 3rd, the first Saturday in May. Our Entertainment Chairman, Tom Hanson has set the calendar for the upcoming events: Opening Season Picnic: Sunday, May 25, 2008 1-3 pm Mid-Season Picnic: Sunday, July 20, 2008 1-3 pm Season End Picnic: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 1-3 pm Lobster Clam Bake Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 6-10 pm As always please check the Boat Club’s web site for changes and updates at The Fleet Committee would like to remind all slip holders that the Slip Holder Agreement should be referred to for upcoming deadlines throughout the boating season. Failure to meet these deadlines could result in fines or loss of slip privileges. If you have misplaced your copy, you can obtain another one on the Darien Boat Club’s web site on the home page. Each year it becomes more of a challenge for the Board to keep the price of gasoline as low as possible. With gasoline now approaching $4.00 a gallon, we would like all of our boat gas purchasing members to obtain a Sunoco credit card. Use of this card enables the Club to keep the sale price of gas as low as possible to our members. Applications are available at the clubhouse. I would like to wish all of our members a safe and enjoyable boating season. Sincerely,
John A. Keena |
