Dear Fellow Members:

We are indebted to the volunteers who helped make our Spring cleanup a success; to the volunteers who helped our Dockmasters replace the docks; and to Dockmasters George Kelsey and Jim Baker for their many hours of hard work getting everything ready for the new season.

The official Opening Day will be May 4 with guards starting May 12. I’ve held off announcing an official opening day until now, hoping to have two projects completed beforehand: the scheduled replacement of sections of C dock and the creation of a few additional slips. The replacement project will be completed very shortly. Since the expansion project was not scheduled and is also dependent upon the same contractor, its fate is still uncertain. We will be deciding on the expansion project at the May 6 Executive Meeting.

We are acutely aware that our membership (and wait list) continues to grow. We have engaged the engineering firm that facilitated our dredging project to do a feasibility study and to secure the permit for the aforementioned expansion project, which they’ve done. We’ve now engaged them to initiate a long-range expansion study. We’ll be happy to discuss these matters with all of you at our May General Meeting.

Some of you may be aware of the improvements Secretary John Keena continues to make to our website: www.darienboatclub.org. He’s doing a great job. Those of you who haven’t been down to the Club since last Fall will be surprised to see how nicely the screened storeroom has been transformed into an attractive clubroom. Tom Williams, Phil Raymond and some other members volunteered their time over the winter to complete that project in time for all of us to enjoy this boating season. See you there.

Safe boating,

                                        Bill Nolte, Commodore
